Switching 50w halogens to 9w LEDs

With around 25 downlights upstairs and another 25 downstairs (all internal), then another 4 on upstairs balcony and another 4 to ground level portico, plus at least 6 external wall and entry lights, it took me a couple of days (in between other jobs and work) to switch the bulk of them over. Originally 50w halogens, some of the internal lights had been replaced with 12w warm LEDs, but I wanted 9w cool LED’s… everywhere. Chris replaced the couple that were left (we thought) during the Christmas break , but I spotted another LED 9W Coolyesterday! I love the 9w cool LEDs as the light is crisp and clean vs the warm LED which is a ‘warm’ and softer light. Surprisingly, the 9w cool LEDS give a lot more light than the 12w warm LED. Other than it being a crisp clean whiter light, I think the 9w is brighter because the 9w comprises 3 x 3w LEDs, which are each physically bigger than the 4 x 3w LEDs on the 12w globes. Each LED is bigger and brighter, even though its only 9w total vs 12w, the individual LEDs are quite different in size and colour.

UPDATE! Some LED globes can interfere with your TV reception. LED’s that are Australian QA are “probably” ok. Many of the LEDs I installed were from China/Hong Kong and did (when a particular light with 5 globes was turned on) kill reception to all of the Chanels 7, 70, 71, 72, 73, 74 and sometimes slightly interfered with Chanel 9 or 10. Sometimes a single LED can kill your reception, and I’ve heard that even NEIGHBOURS LED’s can cause interferance with your TV reception. Solution – mine was easy enough as I had a heap of 12w warm LEDS on hand. I switched them over and the 12w didn’t interfere with TV reception. They were stamped with “QC”, and I can only assume they have passed some sort of Quality Control. The ones I bought from China/Hong Kong have no quality control it would seem. I will have to find a new source for my 9w cool LED’s!
